Women’s Entrepreneurship
In 2017, SCP started a pilot program in the village of La Pita to provide cash grants to women to either start or improve their local business enterprises.
Business Grants to Women
Research on cash transfers have shown improvement in economic indicators in communities in which they are given. These indicators include health and nutrition and educational attainment for the children of beneficiaries. Additionally, some studies on cash transfers in Latin American countries point to more beneficial overall results when women are the beneficiaries. Enterprises funded in La Pita include poultry production, clothing sales and bakeries. We interviewed all participants beforehand and will conduct follow-up surveys to measure whether these grants make a substantive difference in people’s lives
